Ashley Jensen Enjoys Her ‘Husband Blocker’

Never far away from a TV show, Ashley Jensen is surviving pregnancy with some help from her famous friends.

“I have all these girlfriends who just had babies,” the actress told Celebrity Baby Blog at The Invention of Lying premiere in Hollywood.

Rebecca [Romijn] sends me a body pillow that I can lie in. We have to have specific pillows to hold ourselves in place when you’re sleeping. Jerry O’Connell called it the husband blocker. It’s like seven feet long and curls around. It’s the husband blocker.”

Ashley, who is currently starring on CBS’s Accidentally on Purpose and was a regular on Ugly Betty, says of costar Jenna Elfman, “It’s been great having Jenna on the set, who is herself pregnant and has a child. I’m like, ‘Jenna, Jenna, what do I do?’”

Ashley, 40, is due in October with her first child with husband Terence Beesley. They have purposely not found out the baby’s sex, she shares.

“We thought there are so few surprises left in the world,” she explains. “We wanted to be surprised. So, we don’t have the room painted pink or blue. In fact, we don’t have much of a room. We have to build a room.”

Ashley adds of impending motherhood, “I’m more excited at the moment. I’m sure a little bit of fear. But I’m kind of strangely looking forward to it. It’s been great so far.”

Despite being very pregnant, Ashley is busy working.

“The situation comedy schedule is a really nice schedule to have in my condition,” she says. “I do get quite tired. I have to … lie down or sit down, whenever I can. They are making me carry large purses and bunches of flowers in front of me and cake stands to hide my weight.”

Post-delivery, she says she will take a “little bit” of time off work, but is anticipating storylines on her TV show with reduced physicality: “I think I will lay around.”

What to wear to a red carpet premiere at eight months pregnant?

“Thank goodness they have maternity stores now,” says Ashley, who wore a dress from A Pea in the Pod. “It’s a little but more painful than it normally is. And you can’t find your hips to put your hands on your hips. Your feet get a little sorer. Your back gets a little bit sorer. I’m kind of like, ‘Where do I put my hands? I don’t know where to put my hands!’”

Maddie, so do I (as a fellow Kiwi, living in Welly!)…

I don’t understand how mom and dad’s to be don’t want to know the sex of the baby. I sure did! We found out when I was 16 weeks that the baby is a boy. We named him James and my husband would ‘talk’ to my belly every day. When our son was born and my husband began talking, our son looked right at him; after all, he had gotten to know his voice…

  9. JoDy Says:

Joy – we did not find out our son’s sex until he was born either. You can bond with your baby before birth without knowing the sex, and likewise, knowing the sex does not make the baby more or less likely to know your and your husband’s voices. We chose not to find out because we enjoyed the suspense so much. It is a surprise no matter when you find out, but after 12 hours of medication-free labor, including 2 hours of pushing, it was nice for me to have that extra something to look forward to. It was like I had to keep pushing because I needed to know if it was a boy or a girl! :)

i very much enjoyed not finding out my second child’s gender. i am 5 months along now with number 3, and you could not PAY me to find out– it was the most magical, exciting moment/experience of my life, when my daughter was born, and i had spent the past 8 months assuming it would be my SON. :D i, on the other hand, cannot comprehend sooo many families WANTING to know, joy– LOL!

ashley is a riot on Accidentally on Purpose. I was looking forward to the show before it aired at all, and have been catching it on demand on comcast every week– and I’ve been enjoying Ashley and Jenna’s roles on it! so fun!

I did not find out the sex of my first born and I am not finding out now with my second baby. I LOVE surprises and like someone wrote above, looking forward to meet my baby at labor gave me a lot of strenght. My husband used to talk and sing to my son when he was in my belly and he will go to sleep very peacefully (as a newborn) with my husband when he started singing the same song after birth. Another reason I did not find out is that I hate when people starts assuming your kids personality and what he/she will like, before the baby is even born, based on gender. I wanna raised a boy that can play with dolls without felling embarrased and a girl that can play with cars without caring what other people think.
