Kate Beckinsale: Len and Lily Bond Over ‘Obsession’ With Comic Books

There is no need for the director to call a wrap on set for Kate Beckinsale; Her daily closing bell is dictated by her daughter Lily Mo’s shower schedule. “I’m a regular working mom, who puts her kid in a bath, which is probably very annoying…when I’m like, ‘I have to go home now. My daughter needs a bath,’” the actress jokes in a recent interview with Movies Online.

Having 10 ½-year-old Lily close by is important for Kate, who makes a conscious effort to maintain as normal an environment as possible for her family. “She comes with me,” she explains. “I don’t leave her behind.”

As a result, Lily has grown accustomed to the luxury — and unique opportunity — of traveling the globe. “I think she’s lucky to be around lots of very nice, creative, sweet people, and have experiences around the world,” she notes.

And while Lily’s father Michael Sheen is an active part of her life, the same is true for Kate’s husband Len Wiseman. “They go to get comic books together, and I look really confused,” she laughs. “I just can’t compete with their level of obsession, but I respect it, I married it and I live with it.”

Much like she is adjusting to the world of comic books, Kate laughs that she has also been forced to accept herself as an action figure.

“My daughter has an action figure of myself and her dad. It’s just weird when I catch her with one in each hand, and I wonder, ‘What’s going to happen next? How’s that going to go?’”

Kate’s new movie Whiteout is now in theaters.

  1. Carol A. Says:

I understand Kate’s desire to be home in time for her daughter’s shower, but can’t Lily learn to take her own shower? Kate says she “puts her kid in a bath”, so I’m figuring she means she’s right there assisting Lily. When my son’s were young, they were taking showers by the time they were nine years old. Granted, they made a mess in the bathroom, but that was not a big deal to me. At least I didn’t have to stand over them and could go and do other things, like fix dinner.

Anyway, this is how I understood the article, that Lily doesn’t shower or bathe without assistance. Seems a bit old for that, if it’s true.

  2. Lauren Says:

I liked how she said, “i married it..” lol

Sounds like Lily has not one but two amazing dad’s, shes a lucky girl!

  3. Megan Says:

I hope I’m misunderstanding and she was joking about giving her 10 1/2 year old a bath 0_0

  4. Andrea_momof2 Says:

I think maybe she meant it more as “my kid needs me at home so I have to leave” as opposed to actually helping her bathe.

  5. April Says:

I’m sure Kate doesn’t actually give Lily a bath, but most kids that age will do anything to avoid bathing. Kate probably has to get on her about getting in the shower NOW and that’s likely what she means.

  6. CelebBabyLover Says:

April- I agree! When my brother was around Lily’s age, he was practically allergic to the shower/tub! As for me….I guess I’m weird, because I’ve always enjoyed baths! :)

  7. Elli Says:

Oh people, don’t take every word somebody says so seriously. I assume she just wanted to express that the child dictates her daily schedule and that it is important for her being together with her daughter which is good and normal, in my opinion.

  8. Valerie Says:

She may have said that out of habit- something she used to always say when her daughter was younger and the expression still was used even though she just means she needs to be home.

Lily is the image of her father (Michael Sheen)!

  9. Alice Says:

Cute interview – Valerie I agree with you. She used to say this a lot when Lily was like 6 or 7 years old – I doubt she still puts her in the bath now. She just means she doesn’t want to miss normal parent duties.
