Melanie Chisholm Sings Scarlet’s Praises

Melanie C./MySpace

In her first television interview since welcoming daughter Scarlet, 8 months, Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm agreed that motherhood is “everything that everybody says” it is, adding:

“It’s wonderful, incredible, and very difficult.”

With regard to the latter point, the 35-year-old songstress revealed that Scarlet is teething — but that is nothing compared to the “early days” postpartum. “It’s just so exhausting,” she laments. “Just really, really hard.”

“It’s a real shock to the system, and even though people try to prepare you…Friends who’ve had children and your parents … You don’t know until it actually happens to you.”

With that said, Melanie says that as Scarlet — whom she deems a “real character” — has gotten older, caring for her has gotten easier. “Now it’s so rewarding,” she reveals. “It’s so much fun.”

“We have our bedtime routine, we like reading our books…She’s just stopped eating them so that’s good.”

Scarlett is Melanie’s first child with partner Thomas Starr.

What a nice honest interview. I love Mel C. Probably because I grew up in a spice girl poster plastered room in London lol. I swear every child in the 90’s wore a Girl Power t shirt.

“We have our bedtime routine, we like reading our books…She’s just stopped eating them so that’s good.” – Lol!

So happy for her! I think her honesty is refreshing and will make alot of new and first time mothers feel better about their exhausting little ones :) Cheers to Melanie and her daughter!

What an incredibly beautiful picture! Everything she said, she hit on the nail. I felt the same exact way and the more time passed, the more in love I have become with my daughter. The first three months of her life were the hardest for me. It’s so nice to read that other women go through it too – whether they are your average, every day woman or a celebrity.

  4. Sarah Says:

Wish there was a more recent photo of Scarlet; I bet she’s beautiful!

Finally, an honest interview about how difficult it is the first few months after having a baby. All these stars make it look so glamorous when in fact it is the hardest period in a woman’s life. Your trying to heal from the birth, taking care of a newborn, running on no sleep and your hair if falling out. However, the good thing about it is when your baby looks at you and gives you that beautiful smile, it makes it all worth it.
