Courteney Cox-Arquette Says Coco ‘Loves’ Kindergarten

Dave Allocca/Startraks

Calling kindergarten “pretty intense,” Courteney Cox-Arquette says that daughter Coco Riley, 5, isn’t the only one going through an adjustment period. “That’s a lot of parent involvement,” the 45-year-old Cougar Town star quipped during a recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. “I almost need to quit my job.”

Fortunately Coco has settled into her new surroundings with ease. “She loves it,” Courteney proudly reports.

Mother and daughter recently worked together on a project called the “all about me” box, whereby Coco was assigned the task of assembling items that signify “all the things she thinks she’s good at, things that represent her, her passions,” according to Courteney. An obvious choice? Coco’s four swimming trophies. Reveals Courteney,

“She’s a great swimmer, she started at 10-months-old. She’s excellent.”

Also making the cut was a “beautiful diamond necklace because she loves to dress up,” Courteney explains. Next up was a View-Master 3-D picture of Courteney, husband David Arquette and Coco; Although the item seemed innocent enough, hilarity soon ensued! Says Courteney,

“It was broken, so we fixed it and she was putting the screws back in and she’s like, ‘Mom, I’m a good screwer.’ I’m like, ‘Don’t share that in the all about me box.’ The things they say, those kids.”

    LOL Coco is so cute!

  4. Alicia Says:

Why does pre-school and kindergarten need to be so intense? I for one always learned better when I was in a less stressful environment. I mean, we all learned our ABCs and 123s and turned out fine, right? I loved kindergarten but it seems really crazy nowadays.

  5. Niki Says:

I’m with you about kindergarten! My godson’s teacher just told his mama last week that he started off the year behind everyone else because he couldn’t sound out all his letters and visually identify all of them. He knew well over half of the letters… What on earth is kindergarten for?!

  6. Ellen Says:

    Niki,
Don’t blame the teacher or the child. Blame No Child Left Behind.

  7. Simply Bohemian Says:

    ROFLMAO!

  8. Lindsey Says:

Yes, Kindergarten is intense for many reasons. The No Child Left Behind has increased the expectations in the classroom.
Each state has state standards that Kindergarten teachers are required to follow and teach.
Don’t blame the Kindergarten teacher, as this is the way it now is.
KIndergarten is like what first grade used to be.
It is nice to know that Coco’s teacher has a fun project like the Me box. Cute story about Coco.

  9. CelebBabyLover Says:

Lindsey- That’s what I’ve heard (about Kindergarten being what first grade used to be). In that case, I don’t want to know what first grade is like now!
