Celebs Join GapKids and Stella McCartney for Launch of New Line

On the evening of November 4th, celeb moms came out in force to support Stella McCartney’s fab new line for GapKids and babyGap (see our review here).
Hosted by actress Liv Tyler and 4 ½-year-old son Milo, the party also celebrated the opening of the Stella McCartney for GapKids Pop-Up Store (left) on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles, which is now open to the public until November 28th.
Other celeb guests included Amber Valletta with son Auden, Jennifer Meyer Maguire with children Ruby and Otis, Constance Zimmer with daughter Colette and new mom Marley Shelton.
Moms and their little ones shopped for outfits while dining on mini veggie burger bites, grilled cheese, ice cream sandwiches and sprinkle cupcakes. There were also face painters and balloon artists to entertain the kids.
The super cute collection is now in stores and online and it’s selling out fast.
Stella shared some thoughts on her new line. “It’s really exciting for us to do a boys and girls collection with Gap for the first time. I think it has a mix of the playful and practical.”

Well, I think they’re adorable and will definitely be getting some pieces for my girls. Love when Gap brings higher-end designers in, just purchased some of their new bootcut jeans and the fit is amazing.

I took a look at the collection – it looks plain and expensive. And $98 dollars for a girl’s sweater is fine if you are not on a budget, but I know most working adults that don’t spend that much on a sweater! I will stick to Target for now for cool affordable clothes. (Also H & M when possible).

I love the Gap, but this new collection is way overpriced for childrens clothes. $100 for a sweater?! I agree it’s also very plain, nothing special about it. Just another marketing ploy targeted at the upper middle class. Businesses know people will essentially “waste” their money on things like this to feel like they’ve got “one up” on the lower middle class.(I went to business school)

I was really excited when I heard she was doing a line for Baby Gap, but I’m not sure I’ll be picking up any pieces of this. I took a look at the collection, and I don’t think it is that original or interesting. Most of the items in it, my baby daugther already has. Tulle skirt? Check. Every baby company in America has a version out right now, and most of them aren’t $58, even the very high quality ones. My daughter has 2– in silver and pink. Solid one piece sweater outfit? Check. About 4 times over. And most of the colors are boring neutrals. I think my daughter is too young to fade into the background wearing a bunch of gray and khaki– blech. I was actually more impressed with the lines that Cynthia Rowley and Amy Coe did for Babies R Us. My daughter has several pieces of each, and we love them, and I’ve bought a lot from both lines for my nephew. The Cynthia Rowley line is very good boutique-style quality, in particular, and the Amy Coe line is just fun. Don’t get me wrong– I do buy pricier baby clothes. My daughter wears Janie & Jack, Baby Gap, Kissy Kissy, Juicy, etc. But I don’t think I’d throw down the money for a neutral line that doesn’t have anything particularly interesting about it. I just bought WAY hipper/more interesting clothes for my nephew at H&M for about 1/3 the cost of these!

I totally agree with Sherry. I was really excited to hear about Stella’s collaboration with Baby Gap, but after checking it out in person this weekend, I was very disappointed. The cute pieces I was looking forward to weren’t even there except one, and the rest of the collection was extremely dull and not worth the money at all-much less interesting and unique than Baby Gap’s own line. I find this especially interesting since Stella’s been quoted as saying that the higher end baby lines tend to be boring and stuffy. While some of her pieces really were unique, the vast majority fit that exact description. Not worth it at all for the most part, especially with all the other options out there.
