Marley Shelton Says Breastfeeding Is Her ‘Magic Bullet’

It doesn’t take much for Marley Shelton to feel sexy these days. “At this stage, anything besides sweats, since I’m in mommy mode,” the new mama of 9-week-old daughter West tells Celebrity Baby Blog.
That said, on hand at the launch party for Stella McCartney for GapKids, Marley wasn’t concentrating on her own fashion sense — she was all about stocking up for baby girl! “I have a two-month-old so I bought her one of the blazers,” she said.
“She has to wait until she’s one, but I’m so excited for her to rock her first Stella McCartney blazer.”
Marley will soon be celebrating a milestone of her own — getting back to her pre-baby weight.
In addition to spending her time hiking in the Hollywood Hills, the actress reveals that, for her, the key lies in nursing.
“Breastfeeding is my magic bullet. It burns a ton of calories so that’s kind of what I’ve been doing.”
Despite the upcoming holidays, there will be no topping the greatest gift of all for Marley: motherhood. “Being a brand new mom, I’d have to say my daughter is the best gift I’ve ever been given,” she raves.
West is the first child for Marley and her husband, producer Beau Flynn.

yes, in some cases breastfeeding can aide the mother in losing weight which I have experienced myself…but I’m tired of hearing celebrities rave about it. Seriously! it’s wonderful for the baby! period! get over your body already!

Oooh I love that name!

Yes. Breastfeeding is the MAGIC BULLET. For all these celebrities, they do nothing at all but breastfeed and get back to their pre-preggo weight (and shape) within 2-3 months. Because they don’t have nannies and personal trainers and nutritionists that help them.
When people complemented me on my shape six months after giving birth, I told them the truth – I worked out four times a week. And yeah, breastfeeding helped. And only gaining 27 lb with my 9 lb son helped. But none of it was the magic bullet. It was a combination of breastfeeding, good diet and exercise.

It worked for me like it did for Marley. I didn’t do any special exercise or diet and I was back to prebaby shape in a few weeks. Some of the celebrities are actually telling the truth.

I’m just tired of hearing this because it doesn’t work that way for everyone so to imply that anyone who breastfeeds will magically lose all of their baby weight without doing anything else is terribly frustrating for those of us who did not have that experience at all!

to be fair, breastfeeding alone does work for some women, and the article also clearly states that for her, it is in addition to hiking. this debate rages everytime someone mentions breastfeeing burns calories…

She says “MY magic bullet.” Not “this works for everyone.” Sometimes I feel like people comb celeb’s comments looking for something to be offended about.
For me, I KNOW breastfeeding was why I lost the weight with my son because I was stuck in bed and on the couch with a 4th degree tear and was only getting up to go to the bathroom and shower. Certainly was not working out.
Of course I needed to exercise to tone up once I healed, but as far as strictly getting back to my pre baby weight (NOT looking toned) that was all nursing. And I know it’s been that way for a lot of women. If it wasn’t for you that is too bad but please don’t act like some of these ladies are lying. They aren’t.

Who on earth is Marley Shelton!?!?
So many of the people on here I don’t even have a clue who they are in the UK, could you clarify a bit for those of us who dont know these people please cbb???
Also i’m a young mum but i decided to breastfeed and i found not all but the majority of the weight came off after a couple of months, wouldn’t have called it a magic bullet though. But i guess everyone is different.

I am quite surprised that this causes such upset with some. She clearly said it was HER magic bullet, and yes it’s possible. I’m not a celebrity and it worked with both of my children. I was down to my pre-pregnancy weight by my 6 week post partum check up and believe me, I have no nutritionist, no personal trainers and wasn’t even attempting to exercise on my own at that point. I was eating, drinking, sleeping or breastfeeding….and I’m pretty sure none of the other things cause drastic weight loss. I feel lucky because I know it doesn’t work that way for everyone, but it does work for some.

Not once did she say that ALL women can lose their pregnancy weight strictly by breastfeeding. She’s discussing her personal experience, hence the title of the article: “…Breastfeeding Is HER Magic Bullet.”
Everyone is different so what works for some won’t work for all. I don’t understand the need for debate with her statements. She never claimed to know genetics of another person; just what worked for her.

I’m sure these celebs don’t go around announcing to the world about their weight loss. These are interviews and surely they are always asked about baby weight and how they do it. There are also lots of other celeb moms who talk about how hard they have to work out, Gina Lee Nolin, Melissa Joan Hart, Trista Sutter etc etc. I feel like we get a good mix and lots of ideas on ways to lose it other than just breastfeeding!

why is it okay for some people to express their opinions but not others if their opinion differs from yours? no one is saying they’re lying, all we’re saying is that it doesn’t work for everyone and she may say “her” magic bullet but she also states that “it burns a ton of calories” which is a blanket statement. like someone else said, you should feel lucky if it worked for you and have a little sympathy for others who are just frustrated that they had to work so much harder at it.

I have to say, I think a lot of these celebs that credit losing all the weight from breastfeeding must not be eating much at all for it to happen that fast. Sure it works for some people, but when every single celeb on here credits breastfeeding for losing all their weight in one or two months, it makes you wonder.

Phoebe I had never heard of Marley Shelton either so I looked her up on Wikipedia, shes a actress in a few films. She isnt young though, she is 35 years old.
I am a young mom who breast fed and seriously didnt work out at all and lost every pound of the 25 pounds I gained and them some by 2 months after birth. For me breast feeding really did help me lost the baby weight.

Julie- Do you really think they’d jepordize the health of their babies by not eating much while nursing? They HAVE to eat to nourish their baby.
November 11th, 2009 at 8:57 am
Julie, if they weren’t eating, they wouldn’t be nursing. You HAVE to eat in order to maintain a good supply. I highly doubt any of these celeb moms who get back in shape quickly are depriving their kids for it. Breastfeeding alone works for some. Others, it’s diet and exercise as well. And for some, they really are just naturally in great shape. Considering how much weight gain during pregnany comes from things like placenta and amniotic fluid, there really shouldn’t be so much suprise when a woman who was in great shape before and during pregnancy gets back to her prebaby weight and body relatively quickly. There isn’t that much left after baby comes. They aren’t miracle workers or being too hard-core or not eating, they are just healthy and in shape to begin with.
