Helena Bonham Carter Says Son Not Impressed With Acting

Portraying children’s author Enid Blyton in the new BBC biopic Enid was a labor of love for Helena Bonham Carter, who shot the film in 15 days on a shoestring budget. Her enthusiasm for the project was not matched by her 6-year-old son Billy Ray, however! Helena tells the UK’s Telegraph,
“[He] threw my script to the opposite end of the room just before I started filming, saying, ‘I like you but I don’t like what you do ‘cos it takes such a very long time.’”
Although she, herself, was not a big fan of Enid’s writing growing up she is quick to point out that she is reading it to Billy now “whether he likes it or not.” She adds,
“And he does like it. All the things people criticize her for, such as repetitive language, he loves it. It makes it really easy to read.”
Helena is also mom to Nell, 23 months, with partner Tim Burton.

i had to google enid blayton, and still have never heard of her works, though they are apparently wildly popular throughout the world. did i miss some kind of childhood staple, or is she more popular in england than in the states?
also-i love helena bonham-carter and tim burton. they’re so eccentric, but in that charming and loving way, if that makes any sense…

noam, enid blyton is very very famous. i read some of her books as a child. she is probably most famous for her series of the Famous Five and similar books. maybe she is more famous in britain. but i would say her books are quite out of date now. but they were loved by many generations of children.

My sister had almost all the “Five” books when we were growing up. She was addicted!

I didn’t even know there was a movie about Enid Blyton coming out, but she was my favourite childhood author and I adore Helena Bonham Carter, so I’ll definitely be going to see that!
I love how Billy said “…’cause it takes such a very long time!”
So cute!
