Camila Alves: Daughter Vida Is a ‘Big Blessing’

Just four weeks ago, Camila Alves and beau Matthew McConaughey welcomed their second child, daughter Vida — and the new mom is thrilled to have another female in the family.

“I’m very excited to have a girl,” Camila tells PEOPLE. “I’m happy and it’s a big blessing. Vida’s definitely a beautiful and peaceful girl. We are so lucky!”

Now that the Brazilian-born model, 27, and host of Bravo’s hairstyling series Shear Genius has a daughter, she’s looking forward to braiding and styling her baby’s hair. But most importantly, Camila says she has advice to give from her own personal experiences.

“I’m going to have so much fun with her hair. I’ve been dealing with my own hair forever so I have a lot to share with her. It’s going to be long talks.”

And has Vida’s 18-month-old brother Levi received his first haircut?

“We have not cut his hair yet. He’s too cute. He’s a little boy and I don’t want to touch it. It’s still pure and perfect! We’re going to have so much time to style it and cut it,” Camila says. “At this stage in his life, I’m leaving it as pure as possible.”

When it comes time to break out the scissors, Camila says she will save a lock of hair in a scrapbook. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to do something like that. It’s a very mom thing to do.”

With hair being a central part of someone’s appearance, does the model prefer her partner’s curly hair to be long or short?

“I like that Matthew has a little combination of both,” she said. “I like a little bit of a rough look because it’s sexy. But when a man has a rough look and he goes and gets a cleanup than it’s very sexy as well.”

And how does Matthew like her styled? “As natural as possible!”

What a sweet thing to say. I bet she will be incredibly beautiful :)

I love her! I totally agree with her regarding Levi’s hair. Kids have so much time to cut and style their hair, that when they are young and don’t care just leave it! My baby cousin had hair almost down to his middle back before HE decided that he wanted it cut at around 4 years old. Once he cut it, he realized he liked his hair longer and is now growing it back! We all cried when he did it because he’s got the most beautiful, thick dark brown hair and my Mum and Aunt would have killed for it!!!! I cried since my baby was growing up! They don’t care what people think for only so long, let them be free and stay a baby as long as possible!

Levi is a total darling and reminds me a lot of my cousin. The darker skin (my cousin is First Nations, Hawaiian and Caucasian), the long hair, he hippy vibe (my Aunt is a total hippy). I bet Vida is just as beautiful! Love her name.

I think it’s cool that Vida means “life” in Spanish, and Levi (while having its own meaning), is an anagram of “live!”

    :)

This woman melts my heart. She is so down to earth, normal and simple in the best way of meaning!
