Jerry O’Connell on Twins’ Personality Differences
Fame |
Each working actors in the industry, Jerry O’Connell and wife Rebecca Romijn have no problem providing for their fraternal twin daughters Charlie Tamara Tulip and Dolly Rebecca Rose, 10 months. That said, if the stars align, Jerry — noting that his girls are Capricorns — jokes that the tables will soon be turned!
“It means that they’re going to be independently wealthy, so I’m hoping they can make some money and help fund my horse racing habit. Note I said habit and not addiction,” the doting dad, on hand to celebrate the 2009 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, laughs.
Although they may be twins, Charlie and Dolly’s personalities are like night and day, Jerry notes. While one twin is “go with anything, you put her down, she’s cool with it,” her sister makes sure her needs don’t go unnoticed!
“One is just a little more demanding, and wants her way,” he explains to Celebrity Baby Blog. “If you have something shiny near you, she wants it and if you don’t give it to her she’s very upset.”
And while he’s more than willing to dish on his girls, Jerry stays mum on which twin possesses which personality!
“I just shouldn’t say, but one is a little more diabolical than the other one, but I like that…it shows spunk.”
With Jerry a stay-at-home dad by day and law student by night and Rebecca wrapping up work on the just-canceled Eastwick, alone time is a rarity. Fortunately, the couple call in the troops — both sets of grandparents! — on occasion to lend a helping hand.
“We throw the kids at them and then we’ll take off for a couple of hours and go out to dinner,” Jerry shares.
“Sounds pretty tame, but when you have kids, you can’t fly off to Bora Bora for a weekend. Even a quiet dinner at Chili’s away from the kids is just — I love them! — [but] it’s a relief!”

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon: Jax and Jaid Are Two Peas In a Pod
Kristian Dowling/Getty |
Aside from their October 18th birthday, 2-year-old fraternal twins Jaid Thomas and Jax Joseph have little else in common!
“[Jax] is definitely friendlier — he’ll be your friend right away — and Jaid is a little more reserved — he’ll check you out before,” the boys’ mom Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon dishes to Celebrity Baby Blog, adding that the differences between the two have been obvious “since day one…I swear to you!”
That said, despite their contrasting personalities, nothing is stronger than the brotherly bond the twins share. According to the actress, Jaid and Jax have recently become more aware of the other and in turn look to each other for comfort.
“They sleep in the same room and Jax will wake up [first]. I’ll pick him up to take him downstairs and he’ll be like, ‘Jaid! Jaid! Jaid!’ like, ‘Don’t leave my brother, don’t leave my brother!’” she says.
“It’s really amazing because I always think that because they’re together all the time, they’d be sick of each other. Sometimes they are, but it’s really nice to see how much they depend on each other and look forward to seeing one another.”
Life is hectic as a mom to three — including Oliver, 18 — but Garcelle, 42, and husband Mike Nilon make it a point to take quality couple time.
“We try to go see plays, we try to go to dinners, but we go away sometimes to Palm Desert for two days, just to get away,” she shares. “The other day we went to the W hotel in Westwood, just for the day…we sat by the pool, had lunch, just hung out. It was great…little getaways.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Favorite Fragrance: Warm, Wet Diapers
Courtesy Elle |
Most parents agree that integrating an older sibling into the process of welcoming a new baby is essential.
However, when actors Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick were approached by their 7-year-old son James Wilkie asking if he could take on the task of naming one of his baby sisters, the couple were more than a little apprehensive!
“He told me he really wanted Marion to be in the mix,” Sarah Jessica reveals in the December issue of Elle.
“We thought, ‘Are we crazy? Do we let our son name one of the girls? Is that the right thing to do? Is it important for him?’ And then he goes, ‘And I want it legal.’”
While James may have had the honor of naming his new sister Marion Loretta Elwell — whom the couple call by her first middle name — it is Sarah Jessica and Matthew who are on diaper duty for the 4-month-old and her twin Tabitha Hodge — and the actress embraces the task with open arms and a deep breath!
“I love the smell of diapers; I even like when they’re wet and you smell them all warm like a baked good,” she confesses. “I love the smell of Balmex. Love it.”

Marcia Cross Cherishes the ‘Amazing Moments’ of Motherhood
Richard Beetham/Splash News Online |
Welcoming fraternal twin daughters in 2007 after struggling with infertility, Marcia Cross found herself counting her many blessings each night as she lay down to sleep with her husband Tom Mahoney.
“I already knew that every day is a gift, a blessing,” she tells the October issue of WebMD magazine, adding that each passing day of her sweet life was considered “a very lucky day” in her book.
However, the couple’s continued luck came to a startling halt when Tom was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and life as they once knew it took a drastic turn down a path of uncertainty. “Before Tom’s diagnosis, I used to say to him every night, ‘We are so lucky. We have each other. We have our babies,’” she admits. “Because life can turn on a dime.”
Fortunately, amidst the dark spot in their lives, Marcia and Tom seek happiness in their 2 ½-year-old daughters Eden and Savannah. And while she loves motherhood, the intense feelings are not exactly the ones the Desperate Housewives star once envisioned. “As much as I wanted them, I guess I’m surprised at how fulfilling I find it,” she muses.
Case in point? The tender moments shared by the twins that pull at Marcia’s heartstrings. “There are these moments that are so sweet and profound,” she shares.
“Like, last night Savannah helped me put Eden to bed first, and she sang three or four songs to her sister, who was lying in her crib. You get these amazing moments all the time.”
Motherhood hasn’t been all highs; Like many working moms, Marcia struggles with guilt when she finds herself working 14-hour days on her hit show. “I know they don’t need me every single second of the day…but I also know how every phase is so fleeting. And I hate missing any of it!” she says. That said, her stretches spent working well into the night are often balanced with days of downtime, quality time reserved for her family.
She may have years to go before Eden and Savannah are ready to venture out on their own, but Marcia notes that, when that day comes, she will be ready to offer her support where needed. “Really love ‘em — then let ‘em go,” she coaches. “They’re going to be who they’re going to be. And that’s the beauty of parenthood.”

Julie Bowen: ‘I Have No Life’
Michael N. Todaro/FilmMagic |
Playing a frenzied mom onscreen isn’t much of a stretch for Julie Bowen. A real life mom-of-three (under three!), Julie conducts interviews from her car via cell phone because “this is pretty much the only time I can call,” she tells BND.com.
Her return to the small screen in ABC’s new show Modern Family suits the 39-year-old actress just fine, for she’s an admitted fan of television programming in general, listing Lost (in which she has occasionally costarred), So You Think You Can Dance and Hung among her faves.
“It’s because I have no life,” she explains before adding,
“All I have is kids. There is no event worth paying $100 for babysitters that can’t be beat by watching TiVo.”
All that downtime in front of the tube is well-earned. “The real life parenting thing is tough,” Julie acknowledges…but shooting the pilot for the show while heavily pregnant with twins John and Gus, 5 months, was no picnic either!
“Every shot is me hiding an 8 ½-month belly,” Julie notes. “I was dressed in these massive shawl-like sweaters.”
In addition to the twins, Julie is mom to 2 ½-year-old Oliver McLanahan with husband Scott Phillips.

Elvis Costello Strolls With Sons
WENN |
Singer/songwriter Elvis Costello was spotted out strolling with his 2 ½-year-old fraternal twin sons Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James last Friday in London.
With musicians for parents, Diana Krall says the boys have their own thoughts on mom and dad’s tunes!
“They have strong opinions on what songs they like, that’s for sure. If they don’t like something, they tell you to stop. They’re a tough audience sometimes.”

Jane Seymour Recalls Scary First Few Months With Twin Sons
Alexandra Wyman/WireImage |
In an expansive new interview with About.com, actress and author Jane Seymour dishes on the highs — and occasional lows — of being a mom to twins.
When in-vitro fertilization resulted in two miscarriages, Jane says that she and husband James Keach had “almost given up,” but then a third pregnancy resulted in three embryos. One “never really formed,” and the end result were twin boys John and Kristopher, now 13.
Born six weeks prematurely via emergency c-section after Jane developed pre-eclampsia, the babies weren’t out of the woods yet.
“Johnny turned blue twice when we got home because we really wanted to come home soon and that was a big mistake,” Jane recalls. “So then we had to take both of them back to the hospital and I had to stay with them overnight, a couple of nights, monitoring them for sucking, swallowing and breathing.”
Breastfeeding was a challenge for mom, too. Noting that “the beauty of the human body is you have two feeding apparatus,” Jane says that the boys “invariably … wanted to eat at the same time.” As one would finish up the other would be readying to nurse.
“I was referred to as the ‘Dairy Queen,” Jane quips. “I was literally on tap all the time.” When she found herself struggling to even eat enough food to sustain her milk supply, Jane supplemented with formula — to good results.
“[It] worked just perfectly for us. It was no problem with them adjusting to a combination. I always tell people, ‘Don’t feel you have to do one thing and not another.’”
