Wanda Sykes: Daughter Isn’t Impressed By Twin’s Crawling
Jemal Countess/WireImage |
After a few jitters as a first-time mom, Wanda Sykes jokes during a humorous visit to The Jay Leno Show that she is liking motherhood — and plans to tough it out with her fraternal twins.
“I had some thoughts about moving on, but I was like, ‘No, I’m going to stick with it,’” she says. “I’m stayin’ with motherhood.”
And while she may have refrained from making a quick exit, the New Adventures of Old Christine star reveals that her 9-month-old son Lucas Claude is — literally — all about moving forward these days! Sharing that her baby boy has mastered crawling, Wanda and her wife Alex have yet to spot that same motivation in his twin sister Olivia Lou.
“She just sits there and she watches him crawl and she just looks at him like, ‘Look at that dumbass just wasting all that energy. The maid only comes once a week so these floors are filthy, look at them!’” she laughs.
According to Wanda, unlike her brother, baby girl has already discovered the power behind her set of lungs.
“You can just see her in her little brain just going on like, ‘You know they will pick you up and take you to where you need to go,’” the comedienne jokes.
“She’s like, ‘Watch this, Wahhh!’ And we run over and pick her up and she’s like, ‘Look at this, look at this! I’m moving! I’m moving! I’m moving!’”

Pete Wentz Enjoys Making Babies
INF |
He’s only been a father for 14 months, but it’s a job rocker Pete Wentz says he’d love to try again.
“We are very lucky and hope to have another child at some point,” Pete — who has a son, Bronx Mowgli, with wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz — tells PEOPLE during Hard Rock International’s Rock & Soul Party Friday night near Miami.
Adds the rocker: “We also like doing what you have to do to have a baby!”
“My child has taught me selflessness, patience and how to give this unexplained kind of love,” Pete, 30, says at the party, where he was asked to deejay by football agent Drew Rosenhaus. “I can’t explain this kind of love, but Ashlee, who is just an awesome mom, shares this feeling with me.”
As for his other job, bassist for Fall Out Boy, Pete says he’s looking for new challenges now that the fate of the band remains uncertain.
“I am solo tonight, but I won’t sing or perform a song,” he says. “I will just deejay. As for the breakup with the band, all I can say is that for now I want to chill.”

Rosie O’Donnell On Protecting the Emotional Health of Her Children
In A Family Is a Family Is a Family, Rosie O’Donnell examines modern family life. Footage of her own four children with former partner Kelli Carpenter appears in the documentary, despite their breakup, and Rosie says she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Kelli and I had been working on what kind of arrangement our family was going to proceed in for the last two and a half years,” she tells Reuters. “I never once thought to stop doing the documentary.” As for how the kids are handling their changing family dynamic, Rosie says that all is well, noting “it’s different when gay people with children separate.”
“It is not as dramatic as what you stereotypically think with heterosexuals, where one person walks out … It was more of a collaborative effort of how are we going to proceed and make sure of the most important thing — which is that the emotional health, the heart and soul of these kids, remains intact.”
Adding that “the greatest thing you can teach your child is how to deal with adversity,” Rosie opines that “even though change is scary, sometimes it is necessary.”
At least one thing remains unchanged for the 47-year-old radio talk show host, however. When asked about what she thinks of first in the morning, Rosie replies,
“Where the kids are. Who is up.”
Rosie and Kelli are parents to Parker Jaren, 14, Chelsea Belle, 12, Blake Christopher, 10, and Vivienne Rose, 7.
A Family Is a Family Is a Family airs throughout the month on HBO. The Carpenter-O’Donnell’s are pictured below at a screening of the film on Jan. 19th in New York City.

David Arquette: Trying For Baby No. 2 Is ‘Hard Work’
Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic |
As kids get older and develop their own personalities, many begin to favor one parent over the other. Not true for Coco Riley Arquette, says dad David Arquette during a recent visit to The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Noting that the 5 ½-year-old is “definitely her own person,” David shares that he and wife Courteney Cox-Arquette catch glimpses of each other in their daughter.
“She’s a little messy so that’s sort of on my side, but she’s very strong-willed which is very Courteney-like,” he muses. One thing is certain, however — despite her two actor parents, Coco is developing an interest in music!
“We got her a flute recently and she is just walking around [pretending to play],” he laughs. “We’re jammin’ a lot, a little Jethro Tull.”
Whether Coco will become a big sister has yet to be decided. Although David and Courteney would love to expand their family, the actor admits it’s easier said than done. “I mean, it takes a lot for us to do it, so maybe adoption,” he reveals.
Quickly realizing his unintentional pun, David clarifies,
“Hey! Listen, I like practicing as much as possible! But it’s hard, I’m exhausted!”

Shannon Miller: There’s Nothing Like Rocco’s Smile
Courtesy Shannon Miller |
Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller says it’s never too soon to mitigate against childhood obesity, and she cites son John Rocco, 3 months, as an example.
“Right now I am making sure that my diet is healthy so that he is getting all the nutrients he needs while nursing,” she explains while explaining her own foundation’s work with the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation. “Soon we’ll begin solid foods.”
Conceding that “it will be awhile until I need to begin talking to him about good nutrition,” Shannon nonetheless says that she and husband John Falconetti plan to set a good example when it comes to physical fitness.
“[We] talk about how to keep him active and eating healthy so that when the time comes we are both on the same page. I’m planning to start a mommy and me class once he is walking. Of course, that’s fun for him and me! I want Rocco to grow up thinking of physical activity as enjoyable. It should be.”
Someday, limiting Rocco’s time spent in front of the television and the computer will be key to their efforts and the couple have already agreed on rules like no TV on school nights or at the dinner table. For the immediate time being, “we play music and talk or read to him,” Shannon, 32, says, and weather-permitting they head for the great outdoors.
“We have already made weekend walks part of our routine. The earlier the better. Children that are active tend to stay active through adulthood. Of course, Rocco is just along for the ride for a while.”
First-time motherhood has been eye-opening for the seven-time Olympic medalist. “I had no idea what to expect,” she confesses. Although Rocco has struggled with acid reflux, Shannon notes that he has been sleeping through the night since seven weeks of age.
“We have been very blessed and just adore Rocco,” she says.
“There is nothing like seeing him smile! He’s such a sweetheart and has the cutest little boy face. The best is when he sticks his little lower lip out to pout. Unfortunately for him, it doesn’t quite have the desired effect; we just giggle then run and get the camera.”

Susan Sarandon on the Motherhood-Mortality Link
Jim Spellman/WireImage |
It didn’t take a role in The Lovely Bones to force Susan Sarandon to contemplate the unthinkable scenario of losing a child. Mom to Eva, 24, Jack Henry, 20, and Miles Guthrie, 17, Susan says that the circle of life is something she is acutely aware of.
“When you have kids everyone talks about how much you appreciate life but what they don’t tell you is that the second you have a child you think about death,” the actress, 63, notes in a new interview. “I never thought about my mortality — or anybody else’s — until I had children, and I had my kids really late.”
Alluding to a scene in the bestselling book and now film, Susan adds,
“Then everything is fragile and you can’t even allow yourself the thought of losing a child. And you understand the fragility of your children, especially as they get to the point where they cross the cornfield by themselves.”
At the same time, watching her three children blossom into adults has brought with it a sense of peace. “You have to trust in the universe,” she says, “give them as much love as possible and put a light around them and send them out because you also can’t protect them. That’s the other thing this movie says.”
Eva is Susan’s child with ex-boyfriend Franco Amurri; Jack Henry and Miles are her children with ex-partner Tim Robbins. The Lovely Bones is in theaters now.

Keri Russell Dishes on Dance Parties With River
Pacific Coast News |
Like mother, like son! Keri Russell tells iVillage that the biggest trait son River, 2 ½, inherited from mom is a general “silliness.” She adds,
“We dance around and act really crazy all the time. He’s a really sweet little guy so far.”
Joking that “when he becomes the genius that I am, I’ll say, ‘Oh yes — that’s from me,’” Keri, 33, considers herself fortunate to be a full-time actress and mom.
“Luckily, right now, the schedule I get to keep with film really allows me” to balance work and family, she explains.
“I get to work really hard for three months but then I get to be home for four months where I get to put him to bed every night. I like getting to be in the adult world a little bit and then getting to be in the mom world and cook dinners. And for me that balance is what makes it nice.”
River is Keri’s son with husband Shane Deary. Her new film Extraordinary Measures is in theaters now.

Kourtney Kardashian Says Family Is ‘Nicer’ Since Mason Arrived
Albert Michael/Startraks |
Fans of Keeping Up with the Kardashians know that Scott Disick — boyfriend of Kourtney Kardashian and father of the reality star’s 7 ½-week-old son Mason Dash — is often regarded with disdain by the Kardashian clan as a whole.
“It’s still like a sick joke that no matter what he does, they pick on him,” Kourtney lamented during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Since the couple welcomed their baby boy, however, the tides have begun to turn. She explains,
“My mom is so much nicer to [Scott] … and so much nicer to me. Whenever I’m on the phone she’s like, ‘Sweetie, oh my gosh!’ And I’m like, ‘Whoa, where did this come from?’”
Adding that “since Mason … everything has been great and everyone has been getting along,” Kourtney, 30, says that even if her mom and siblings backslide she isn’t concerned.
“I’m fine with it,” she insists, “[because] I know that we’re good, we have our little family now, so if people don’t like it … then don’t come over.”
As for Kourtney’s body after baby, progress has been steady! “I actually gained 40 lbs.,” she revealed. “I’ve lost 25, so I still have 15 to go.” When host Jimmy Kimmel reminded Kourtney that she must include Mason’s birth weight of 7 lbs., 6 oz. in her calculations, she agreed.
“I feel like there’s some other stuff that comes out, too,” joked Kourtney. “Definitely … that’s not pretty.”

Kim Raver Turns to Internet For Homework Help
Jamie McCarthy/WireImage |
Memorizing the never-ending medical terminology for her latest role on Grey’s Anatomy is a breeze compared to tackling her 7-year-old son Luke West’s homework, according to actress Kim Raver.
“He comes home with homework and I’m like, ‘Um, let’s just Google that! I know what it is, but let’s just do some research,’” she confesses during a humorous recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
After finishing up a semester spent studying the ocean and tide pools, Luke has developed a love for sharks. In fact, much of his time is spent on YouTube searching for shark attack clips. However, after a few close-calls Kim admits she is always nearby in case his quest goes awry!
“You gotta be really careful with YouTube because it’s shark attacks and then it’s cougar attacks and then it goes into women … I’m like, ‘Oh my God! You can’t watch that!’”
Despite the plethora of footage, watching sharks onscreen isn’t satisfying Luke’s passion, Kim says. After he inquired about getting one as a family pet, Kim — not too keen on the idea of caring for an animal — met her son halfway and purchased a goldfish.
“I thought, that’s not so bad, that’s easy,” she admits, before adding that she spoke much too soon.

Cat Cora: Any Additional Kids Will Be Adopted
Eric Charbonneau/WireImage |
While Cat Cora and wife Jennifer aren’t ruling out the possibility of expanding their brood, they’ve eliminated at least one way in which it could happen. “The only way Jennifer and I would have another child is if we adopt,” the 42-year-old Iron Chef star tells PopEater.
The couple tried to adopt before welcoming son Zoran, 6, but found that “it is very difficult for same-sex couples.” Undeterred, Cat says it is the route they will pursue should they elect to have a fifth child.
“We have agreed that if we ever wanted more children, we would only do it by giving back and adopting.”
In the meantime, Cat says that she and Jennifer have their hands full with Zoran and his little brothers Caje, 2 ½, Thatcher Julius, 10 months, and Nash Lemuel, 6 months.
“We love our four boys,” she proclaims. “We are so blessed.”
“Of course, it is a challenge for me to juggle everything and be home as much as possible as well — but it is a rowdy, busy household, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
