Nicole Sullivan Recounts ‘Cell Phone Incident’ With Sons

Flynet

The presence of brotherly love in Nicole Sullivan’s household is still up in the air. Although the actress and her husband Jason Packham made the decision to let nature take its course between their sons Dashel Pierce, 2 ½, and Beckett Edward, 11 weeks, she tells Celebrity Baby Blog the sibling pair are still on shaky ground.

“There was an incident with a cell phone on the head, but other than that [Dashel] is doing pretty well,” she shared while attending the March of Dimes 4th Annual Celebration of Babies luncheon. “All I know is I looked over and there was a cell phone on the baby’s head and the baby was crying. I was like, ‘Well, I don’t know how that went down.’”

However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel! “He laughs at him and thinks he’s funny,” Nicole says of toddler. Hopeful that their relationship will improve with time, the mother-of-two can’t help but envision her future filled with trips to the hospital.

“Listen, they’re going to be wrestling, I’m going to be taking them to the emergency room. Who am I kidding. They are going to be fighting all the time, but that’s what it’s all about.”

Despite a few bumps in the road, motherhood has been smooth sailing the second time around. As she’s no longer “freaking out every two seconds,” a “much more relaxed” Nicole has shifted her priorities, focusing her attention on the future of her family.

“Before I had kids, I would be out nursing a hangover, hanging out going to breakfast,” she admits, “and instead I’m here dedicating my time to making sure the world is a better place. That’s because I want my kids to grow up somewhere where they learn to give back.”

For Dashel, his gift to the world may be his ability to keep his audience laughing! The Rita Rocks star reveals that her “hilarious” first-born is following in his parents footsteps, however, unfortunately Nicole is often the butt of the joke! “My son is already doing bits and it irritates me,” she confesses. “He’s already laughing at me and I’m like you know, how dare you not fall far from the tree.”

Beckett has kept his mama smiling as  well — baby boy is gurgling the occasional “agoo,” much to Nicole’s delight.

“Listen, that’s not much, but when you’re a mom, it’s pretty exciting. It’s like a two-syllable word.”

Amanda Peet on Motherhood: ‘Put On Your Own Oxygen Mask’ First

Courtesy Self

Forget the parenting books. When it comes to advice on raising Frances ‘Frankie’ Pen, 2 ½, Amanda Peet seeks her words of wisdom from none other than airline flight attendants. “‘You have to put on your own oxygen mask before you put on others,’” the December cover girl for Self magazine says.

The concept may look good on paper, but Amanda admits following through with the philosophy is often easier said than done. “It’s a good metaphor for parenting, but it’s really hard to do sometimes,” she notes. “A lot of women feel that if they’re exerting energy in different areas of their life…it’s automatically detrimental to the child.” Not the case, continues the actress.

“I think the exact opposite is true. Children need to have a role model who is able to identify her passions and go after them.”

To that end, Amanda is a strong believer in female relationships and cherishes her time spent with her girlfriends. In turn, the 2012 star hopes Frankie will take note and nurture her own friendships later in life. “Sometimes I feel guilty about making time for my friends, but that’s a good model for Frankie, and it’s poignant to me because she’s a girl,” she explains.

“It’s important for her to know that when I leave her, it’s to go see someone who needs me. That I have to stay on the phone right at that moment because I’m checking with a friend who’s opening a play or something like that.”

Although her friends play a large role in her life, Amanda ensures time spent with her husband David Benioff and Frankie remain high on her list of priorities. That said, quality couple time since the birth of their daughter often means a stay-at-home date night! “We put Frankie down, then order in and watch Mad Men or Nurse Jackie,” she laughs.

Her close-knit group that she has surrounded herself with also serves as her own personal soundboard when it comes to making decisions, something Amanda admits she cannot do alone! “I have moments where I’m incredibly spontaneous and incredibly certain about a route we should be taking,” she shares, “and other times, I’m completely paralyzed and I call my sister and mom and I talk to one of [Frankie's] teachers and to my girlfriends.”

Should her plans go awry or her choices turn out to be less than perfect, Amanda insists on dusting herself off and trying again — a lesson she hopes to instill in her daughter. “I think it’s important for her to know that you can fail and then recover and that — it’s so corny — but that failure is important,” she says. “It’s part of the thing. You cannot escape it. There’s nothing you can do. There’s no way you can control everything that much.”

Peter Facinelli on More Kids: ‘Never Say Never’

Beetham/Whittle/Splash News Online

Twilight star Peter Facinelli has made no secret of his belief that the “world is made for a family five.” Although he concedes in a new interview with Time Out New York Kids that he’ll “never say never,” he and wife Jennie Garth remain united in their content with their daughters Luca Bella, 12, Lola Ray, 6 ½, and Fiona Eve, 3.

The 35-year-old actor admits, however, that a subconscious desire to expand their brood might have been at play with one recent purchase. “We take our RV to our daughter’s soccer tournaments and we drove to Portland, Oregon this past summer,” Peter shares. “I just bought a new RV the other day.”

“We had a 33-foot and now we’ve moved up to a huge 40-foot Class A motor home. Who knows? Maybe I’m making room for one more child.”

With that said, Peter points out that maintaining the status quo would be undeniably easier. “When you get in a car, you can seat five comfortably,” he explains. “When you go out to dinner, you can seat five comfortably.” Although he grew up in a family of six, Peter says that times have changed. “Those were different days; Everyone climbed in the back of a Chrysler and your face was smashed up against the glass and nobody cared.”

There is also the element of time to consider – or lack thereof! When asked how he spends those rare days where he’s not working, Peter asks,

“What downtime? Any downtime I have is spent with my family, with my kids. In between one doing soccer and basketball, another doing horseback riding and the 3-year-old wanting to go to the park, I don’t have a lot of downtime.”

Nicole Kidman On Taking a Step Back From the Spotlight

Courtesy Ladies’ Home Journal

Home is where the heart is and for Nicole Kidman, it has led her to establish her roots alongside her husband Keith Urban and their 16-month-old daughter Sunday Rose in Nashville, Tenn. While the small town feel and country living is a far cry from her days in Hollywood, the actress has come to prefer it that way.

“I love living here,” she tells the December issue of Ladies’ Home Journal. “I feel protected here, especially now that I have the baby.”

Allowing country crooner Keith to step into the spotlight hasn’t been an issue for Nicole, who admits watching him shine when it comes to his successful albums and tours is “much bigger than what I’m doing right now.” Often joining him on the road — the couple insist they are never apart for more than four days at a time — both Nicole and Sunday are privy to Keith’s stellar voice each morning!

“I hum a little. When your husband’s a huge singer, the last thing you do is sing with him.”

That isn’t to say Nicole’s career has taken a complete backseat to her family. Only weeks after giving birth to Sunday, Nicole packed up her daughter and headed to Italy to film her latest movie Nine. Having baby girl on set proved to be a good distraction! “Kate [Hudson] had her son there,” Nicole recalls, “and Penélope [Cruz] and Fergie were like, ‘I can’t wait to have a baby.’”

Settling into life with an infant on set was nothing short of a new experience for all! Come time for costume fittings Nicole — who was nursing at the time — found herself with a few newly acquired curves. “They’re not very big, my boobs, so they just became normal size,” she notes.

“I loved it! When you’ve had a slightly androgynous body your whole life, having breasts is a nice feeling.”

And while she may make light of her experience, having the chance to carry a child isn’t something Nicole takes for granted. “I loved bringing life into the world,” she raves. “To be completely responsible for this baby growing inside me. I’m grateful for that experience.”

Her trip to Italy was only the beginning for Keith and Nicole’s daughter. The glitz and glamour that accompanies her parents’ careers has certainly left a lasting impression on Sunday, who has logged thousands of air miles with the pair. “Sunday’s third word was ‘wow’ and I say that word a lot,” says the Australian native who, in addition to a farm in Nashville, has property — and a handful of alpacas — in her homeland.

“I hope when I’m 80 I’ll still be saying it. I’ve been given extraordinary opportunities, with huge dreams fulfilled. I’m 42 and my eyes are still wide open.”

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz ‘Humbled’ by Marriage, Motherhood

Courtesy Women’s Health

Nothing reshuffles priorities quite like motherhood, and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz wouldn’t have it any other way. Proud to be a “really young mom” to Bronx Mowgli, turning 1 this week — her first child with husband Pete Wentz – the 25-year-old actress and singer tells the December issue of Women’s Health that career now comes second to family.

“Pete and Bronx come first,” she explains. “It has humbled me.”

“I believe in letting life happen. There’s good, there’s bad, and then there’s great. If you learn from those things, you grow. I’ve really done a lot for 25, and there’s still a lot to come.”

There were no jitters about pregnancy, a state of being Ashlee says she never felt compelled to “second-guess.” Quite the opposite, being an expectant mother was “the most calm I’d ever been in my life,” she reveals.

That sense of serenity extended to her approach to shedding the 50 pounds she gained while pregnant, something which — by her own account — happened with relative ease, with the help of a personal trainer. “I wasn’t in a rush to get back to this body for anyone else,” she insists. “It was more like, ‘I wanna look good [for me]. I wanna feel good.’”

Her secret weapon? Baby boy himself! “[I do] Bronx Pilates,” she explains. “And these [points to her biceps] are from holding him. He’s in my arms all the time.”

While exercise might have come naturally to Ashlee, diet was another matter entirely, and a home-delivery meal service often left her feeling unsatisfied. “It was hard, because I’m an eater,” she admits. “If I want a grilled cheese sandwich, I’ll eat a grilled cheese sandwich.”

Proclaiming that she “likes curves” — noting that she “had E’s!” during the five months she breastfed her son — and “what defines sexy is not someone’s weight,” Ashlee is quick to point out that her husband accepts her for who she is, no matter the size.

“Pete isn’t worried about stretch marks. He always makes me feel sexy.”
