Fiction Plane lead singer Joe Sumner, 30, admits he’s guilty ofnepotism in regards to his band’s opening act gig for The Police. Hisdad Sting offered him the coveted spot, which Joe nearly turned down.

We earned it, man. We worked from the street. No, my dadcalled me up and gave me the gig. I almost said no because I feel likeit’s a big sellout in a lot of ways. I figured if I don’t do it, I’lljust be pissed for a long time.

Still,Joe says he’s not taking advantage of his blood ties too much. While hedoesn’t know how much he’s making on tour, he believes it’s less than whatMaroon 5 will take in when they inherit the slot later. Furthermore,Fiction Plane finds its own way to venues, eschewing rides on ThePolice’s private jet.

It depends on how many friends and family they bring. It’s a professional thingie.
